Affirmed

In 1978, the nation was enthralled with the great rivalry of Affirmed and Alydar. In a competition that began as two-year-olds in 1977, spanned ten races, and was highlighted by Affirmed's three thrilling victories in the 1978 Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont. Always exhibiting great heart and competitive spirit, Florida-bred Affirmed, foaled February 21, 1975, went on to be voted Horse-of-the-Year in 1978 and 1979, and to establish an all-time earnings record and winning 22 of 29 starts. His loving owners were Patrice and Louis Wolfson. Affirmed was a gentleman, a champion with a great heart. He stood at Jonabell Farm until he passed away in 2001.
