Secretariat danced to the winners circle in 1973 with jockey Ron Turcotte up, dragging long time groom Eddie Sweat after winning the last leg of the Triple Crown. Affectionately known as Big Red, he was owned by Meadow Stable, Penny Tweedy Chenery. He was born March 30, 1970 at The Meadow in Doswell, VA. Secretariat passed away on October 4, 1989 at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky and is greatly missed by generations of fans. A bronze statue of Secretariat that stands at the Kentucky Horse Park in Versailles, KY was dedicated on April 8, 2006.
